We are officially 3 1/2 weeks away from Valentine’s Day, which, if you’re like me, means time is running out to get the number one choice of Valentines that my son wants to take to school and pass out during his party. Last year I believe we went with Star Wars, and everyone also got their own Star Wars themed pencil. I honestly can’t remember what he’s decided on this year, but I’m sure it will be a topic of conversation this weekend as we go to Target to get supplies for his Pet Show project (a different post for a different day, friends).
Valentine’s Day also marks the anniversary of the first actual date I went on with my husband, 23 years ago. We agreed, all those years ago, that we weren’t going out for Valentine’s Day, really just that it was a coincidence that the evening we both happened to be free just so happened to fall on that sacred holiday.
I remember he showed up at my door with flowers that afternoon (although I can’t remember what kind -> bad girlfriend turned wife I suppose), and we went to the movies to see (of all things) He’s Just Not That Into You. Funny enough, the theatre was packed. I sometimes wonder how many other couples watching that movie that day are still together.
After the movie, we parted ways for a quick wardrobe change, and then he took me out to dinner. For those of you in the QCA, we went to Wood Fire, and sat next to the kitchen – which I remember he complained about (typical Chad). We’ve literally been together ever since – so, celebration or no celebration, I would say that Valentine’s Day historically has been a pretty big day for us. (Chad, I’ll quiz you later to see if you can remember the other reasons).
I’m not sure if we’ll have plans this year, but either way – I’ve put together some of my favorite looks from Harper & Sky for the famous holiday.
I’m a sucker for dresses, which I know may surprise some people as most of the time when you see me, I’m in workout clothes, a messy mom bun, and sneakers. But it’s true. There’s something that feels so pretty and feminine about putting on a dress and going out on a date – and let me stop for a second ladies – you don’t need a man or significant other to get yourself dressed up and go out. Grab your best girlfriends, you mom or aunt, or even just yourself. There’s something so empowering about treating yourself to a dinner, or drink, or movie – on you.
Although a lot of these dresses came out around Christmas time, they’re all so versatile they’ll still pair well for any holiday. I’m obsessed with the ruffle sleeves in the black Farrah Dress (and you can always make it casual by adding cute booties or even OTK boots instead! Add a Fedora and you’re good to go).
The Black Adrian Lace Dress is probably my favorite that we have in stock right now at Harper & Sky, aside from The Perfect Dress because of it’s trend-factor and comfort. I just love this little number and I honestly felt like a million bucks when I put the thing on.
Here are my current favorite shoes I’m obsessing over that would be SO fun with any of the above dresses (just click each photo to shop)
Not big on going out for VDay? Or not one for dressing up? Whether you’re having a fun night planned at home with your friends or a more casual/low-key night out, there’s seriously a look for that as well.
I’m hosting an online event through Facebook until January 31st that will allow you and your girlfriends to snag some of my favorite Valentine’s Day outfits (as well as some of my favorite Stella & Dot jewelry) -> at great deals 🙂
