One of the hottest jewelry trends right now is the layered look. Layered necklaces are a timeless look that truly can be made to fit any occasion. Plus, layering your necklaces is a simple way to dress up any outfit, from the most casual of ensembles to date night.
I’m a sucker for layering both bracelets and necklaces, and pulling off this look doesn’t have to be complicated.
I truly believe that style is a personal reflection of YOU, so don’t ever let anyone tell you that you CAN’T do something when it comes to your outfit, but there are some teeny tiny rules to keep in mind when pulling off this layered trend:

A Few Rules for Layering your Necklaces
- Layer delicate pieces and save the statements for another outfit.
- Exception to rule #1: If you want to layer with a statement piece, make sure that you’re not overdoing it. Pick a statement necklace and then pick maybe one shorter, delicate necklace to go with it, or one longer, delicate chain that hangs down past the statement necklace. I wouldn’t layer five necklaces, for example, along with a statement necklace. (When I say statement, I mean the heavier, chunkier pieces).
- There are a lot of varying opinions about this but at the end of the day, it’s perfectly fine to mix your metals. On any given day, I might be wearing gold, rose gold, and silver all mixed together. Your style is a reflection of you. Always keep that in mind and don’t let anyone tell you differently.
To start, I like to find a basic, simple chain as my choker. I’m wearing the Celestial Choker from Stella & Dot, which is an older piece. But you can find a similar look with the Kite Stud Choker.

Add your second necklace. I’m going to show you a couple options with this one, but a lot of times I’dd add my bar necklace that has my son’s initials on it, or my initial necklace from Stella & Dot.
I love this one for a lot of reasons, but I’ve found it’s easier to layer because of the length options. Like the choker, this one gives you a little flexibility in length, and because I don’t want each necklace hitting at the exact same spot, I opted to swap out the bar for this one.
If you’re wanting something more simple and subtle, you could stop your layering right here. Otherwise, continue on.
